THE WORLD IS MY PLAYGROUND EXHIBITION - DDW 2017
Attention to inspiration, work process and nature
During Dutch Design Week (DDW) 2017, visitors got the chance to see the world through the eyes of the following talented artists: Atelier NL, Nacho Carbonell, Studio Maarten Kolk & Guus Kusters, Studio Thier & Van Daalen and Zuijderwijk/Vergouwe. This exhibition inHall 12 - Art Experience by KRL at creative hub Sectie C, showed the ideas and work processes from these artists in combination with new work.
The exhibition 'The World ismy Playground' is initiated by curator Justine Kontou and project manager Kathelijn Voets, who became friends because of their mutual interest in the work of Zuijderwijk/Vergouwe.
This photographer duo is on a 4-year trip through Europe together with their three children in order to investigate the human-nature relationship. When the idea came to make a group exhibition at DDW, Kontou directly linked the work of Zuijderwijk/Vergouwe to the other artists of the exhibition. According to Kontou, “They have an important similarity. They are attentive, pure and they all use nature as a source of inspiration”. With this exhibition, Kontou focussed on the process and research aspect of the work. The selected artists gave an insight in their idea process by showing sketches, experiments and also final results. It was a beautiful way to meet these extraordinary people, through their work and their outlook on the world around us.
